At Bargara Beach Convenience Store, Sharon and Daryl Harmer are now able to take a break, confident that Bronwyn Pollock can look after the shop for them.
And after finding such a valuable employee through STEPS, are now going back to someone else to help out while Bronwyn is off completing her training courses.
Bronwyn started with a 12-week program through STEPS and has remained on, working the same 15 hours a week, or three hours a day – and has never missed a day.
Overcoming her dyslexia she has learnt to use the computer and puts tickets on the shelves. She also puts stock away and handles cash “everything you would find in a small convenience store.”
“We are very pleased with her,” says Daryl. “She finished the program a month ago and is now going back to school to learn English, so we need to replace her on the days she’s not available.”
The Harmers went back to STEPS.
“It saves lot of hassle with recruitment,” Daryl says. “They have lot of people on their books, the case worker follows up really well and they work with us to resolve any problems that might crop up.” |
